In haskell you can designate any sequence of characters as an infix operator. Here's the definition of ++ from the prelude (http://www.haskell.org/onlinereport/standard-prelude.html):

  (++) :: [a] -> [a] -> [a]
  []     ++ ys = ys
  (x:xs) ++ ys = x : (xs ++ ys)
so [1, 2, 3] ++ [4, 5] = [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
